I am sold on cycling. I have been cycling since I was about 5 years old and it became my main means of transport as my parents never drove a car. I have grown up with the changes in traffic conditions but I remain convinced of the advantages of cycling.
I passed my driving test in 1972 and enjoy driving a car when I need it for carrying passengers, heavy loads or travelling long distances. I am not a cycling 'nut'. I recognise the convenience of cars and their necessity to many people for many reasons, and I understand cyclists from the driver's point of view. Our roads have to be shared.
There are, however, many people who could be persuaded to consider cycling as a viable alternative to their car for some of their journeys if they received the right encouragement.
